Officials said that 10 people were killed when unidentified gunmen opened fire in a club in central Mexico, the latest violent incident to rock the nation.
A police official from the town of Tarimoro in the state of Guanajuato, which has recently been rocked by vicious turf wars between rival drug gangs, said, “It appears it was a direct attack.”
All 10 victims of the incident on Wednesday were men, according to the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. He also stated that no arrests have been made as of yet.
Nine of the men, according to a state government official, perished at the site, while one more died from his injuries after being transported to the hospital.
Diego Sinhue Rodriguez, the governor of Guanajuato, tweeted his condolences to the families of the victims and referred to the shooting as a “cowardly attack.”
This Monday, the federal security ministry reported that 2,115 people were murdered in Guanajuato between January and August, making it the Mexican state with the highest homicides this year.
At a news conference on Thursday morning, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador announced that 20 homicides had been reported in Guanajuato on September 22, 2022.
