The tragic death of Kate Dean is a great shock and loss to her world, Kate who was reportedly 8-year-old at the time of death.

Kate Dean died after having undergone an emergency operation for her injuries at Norfolk’s Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughter.
Her injuries were the result of a fatal accident on Wednesday. She lived on Azalea Drive in the 100 blocks.
According to the Camden Sheriff, no deputies got called to the scene, so no report of what happened is available.
It was later reported by another county official that the child was playing on Saturday near the open hearth, which had a big wooden mantel when the incident happened.
The young girl is said to have been attempting to make a TikTok video with a cellphone when she climbed up the fireplace and placed the phone on top of the mantel.
The mantel fell off the fireplace and landed on her while she was in the middle of the process.
Following the incident, the Director of Emergency Medical Services stated that EMS was dispatched to the 100 block of Azalea Drive.
On Saturday, around 1:00 p.m., the EMS arrived in response to traumatic injuries. According to a babysitter who called 911, The child had been climbing on the fireplace when a large object fell on her.
Kate was conscious when the EMS arrived, but she was in pain due to her internal injuries. She got immediately transported from Camden to the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, but it was too late.
Camden Superintendent of Schools Joe Ferrell stated that losing a loved one at such a young age was difficult for the family and the school.
When officials learned of Kate’s sudden death on Monday, Grandy’s Principal Tim Lazar “brought the staff together to support each other.”
