Martyn Abbott was born the son of an IT specialist and a financial manager. He attended local public, primary, and secondary schools. Later he got enrolled at RMIT to study finance.

After completing their education, Abbott worked in various positions in different sectors such as construction, financial services, hospitality, logistics, and most recently, in the public service since 2019.
