Lil Wayne’s FWA album was released exclusively on TIDAL earlier this month even though he still had a contract with Cash Money. Birdman is now looking to take action against Hov’s new streaming service and he’s suing for $50 million. Birdman who is joint owner of Cash Money records claims the label has exclusive rights to all Wayne’s music and TIDAL is an illegal distributor.

According to the lawsuit obtained by TMZ, Cash Money calls it “a desperate and illegal attempt to save their struggling streaming service.” TIDAL claims Wayne isn’t exclusive to CM and that he gave them the right to his music in return for part ownership of the company. But according to CM their contract specifically states that Lil Wayne does not have the power to license his music to anyone else.
Cash Money went as far as saying the album got “tepid reviews” and that it could hurt their attempts in exploiting Wayne’s music.
