D’Angelo headlined a solo VERZUZ event and fans loved it.
D’Angelo and Friends night of celebration went down on Saturday (Feb. 27) at Harlem’s Apollo Theater in NYC.
Originally intended as a Verzuz between D’Angelo and Maxwell, Verzuz creators Timbaland and Swizz Beatz decided to let Angelo go solo since the initial plan fell through.
Swizz and Timb just said on IG live that it was supposed to be D’Angelo #VERZUZ Maxwell on Valentine’s Day but it didn’t work out and D’Angelo was ready so they went this route. I loved tonight but wow that would’ve been something.

The undeniably intimate evening wasn’t short of talking moments. D’Angelo, aided by DJ Scratch kept fans entertained all through the night with performances of some of his classic tracks from his 1995 debut album Brown Sugar and 2014’s Black Messiah.
Method Man and Redman joined ‘Angelo on stage to perform “Left And Right,” before Method Man took the lead for “Break Ups 2 Make Ups.”
D’Angelo continued running through some fan favorites including’One Mo’ Gin,” “Jonz in My Bonz,” and “Another Life.” He was later joined on stage by H.E.R. for a duet of Lauryn Hill’s “Nothing Even Matters.”
Choosing to save the best for last, D’Angelo closed out the evening with a rendition of his Voodoo fan favorite “Untitled (How Does It Feel?).
Despite a considerable low viewership, estimated to be well short of 200k viewers on Instagram, the event’s older generation seemingly had a blast and they couldn’t wait to tweet their reactions.
Lord, thank you for Black music. My soul is filled. #VERZUZ #DAngelo
