David John McKee was a well-known British author, who had houses in London and the south of France.
His houses where places he shared a passion for collecting drawings and African tribal art with his second wife Bakhta, a French-Algerian art dealer.
Aside from been a British author, Johnis also known as an illustrator best known for his work on children’s books and animations. For his work as a children’s artist in the United Kingdom, he was nominated for the international Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2006.
McKee is publish many books, and his first book to be sold was Two Can Toucan, a story he told in college. It’s about a South American bird with a massive beak that can carry two paint cans.
Dr Mckee is known as the bestselling children’s novelist and creator of Elmer and Mr. Benn.
David was reported dead at the age of 87. His publisher, Andersen Press, confirmed the news, saying he died at his home in the south of France following a brief illness.

McKee has created several additional characters who have become book series, notably Elmer the Patchwork Elephant. Elmer was initially published in 1968 by Dobson Books and was reprinted in 1989 by Andersen Press.
He has also illustrated books by various authors, including several of Paddington Bear’s most recent works. In addition, he drew books written by his mother, Violet McKee, and his son, Chuck McKee.
Elmer board books, bath books, coloring books, Elmer flap books, Elmer hole-in-the-page books, and an Elmer pop-up book have all been created by David. In Mika’s extended play Songs for Sorrow, he illustrated the songs “Toy Boy” and “Lonely Alcoholic.”

Consequently, a thirteen-episode series based on McKee’s Mr. Benn persona was created, which was routinely replayed for two decades. McKee was born on January 2, 1935 in Tavistock, Devon, England, and grew up there. After graduating from the local grammar school, David went to Plymouth College of Art. In 2011, McKee received an Honorary Doctorate of Arts from Plymouth University. May his soul rest in peace.
