I had the pleasure of working with Daniel and meeting all of his brothers and sisters (as well as extended family). They were all devoted to this woman. This was true for the entire community.
Carol Martineau Baldwin, a breast cancer survivor, has dedicated her life to finding a cure. She attended Syracuse University and received her bachelor’s degree there. She grew up on Massapequa, Long Island, with her husband Alexander. Carroll’s spouse died of lung cancer in 1983, after 29 years of marriage, and Carroll was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1990.
These experiences led her to a leadership role in the creation of the Central New York chapter of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in Syracuse.
Although she returned to Syracuse after raising her family, Carol Baldwin remained close to Long Island and was well aware of the high rates of breast cancer in the area, so she founded Carol Baldwin Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund. Inc., 1996. The fund is a single-purpose company to raise funds for breast cancer research at Stony Brook University Hospital and Medical Center.
Joining Carol are her children: daughters Jane and Elizabeth and sons, actors Alec, Stephen, Billy and Daniel. Carol Baldwin asked others to join her healing movement, believing “we can and will find a cure together”.
