One of the FAA employees on the line with a North Carolina 911 dispatcher said, “This is from Raleigh Airport … We have a pilot who was inbound to the field. His co-pilot jumped out of the aircraft. He made impact to the ground and here are the coordinates.”
A 911 call was placed by a pair of FAA staffers after they learned pilot, Charles Hew Crooks, had jumped from a cargo plane that was in the process of making an emergency landing.
The employee went on to say the co-pilot, 23-year-old Crooks, “jumped out without the parachute, so he might have impact to the ground.”
The reason Charles Hew Crooks jumped is still not known.
