Sylvia Lancaster, the mother of Sophie Lancaster’s mother, a campaigner, died unexpectedly. Sylvia Lancaster died on Tuesday morning at Royal Blackburn Hospital in Lancashire, after suffering from illness for a few years.
Sylvia was a difficult opponent. She stood up to the establishment and battled for what she believed in. Sophie’s legacy will be that she will never be forgotten, and her daughter’s name will always signify her aim – to Stamp Out Prejudice, Hatred, and Intolerance Throughout the World.
Coronation Street built a story on the killing in May 2021, with the help of Sylvia, and two of the characters, Nina Lucas and Seb Franklin, were exposed to similar abuse.
Sylvia Lancaster’s death was “sudden and unexpected,” according to a statement posted by the Sophie Lancaster Foundation. “This is the most difficult statement to write,” it said.
She had spent the previous 15 years advocating for members of alternative subcultures and developing educational programs to combat prejudice and intolerance.
Sylvia Lancaster’s other family members are not known. However, her daughter Sophie Lancaster is all over the web. Her daughter, Sophie was 20 years old at the time, when she was killed.
She was killed in a park in Bacup in 2007 while defending her boyfriend after her couple was accused of being goths. The following year, Ryan Herbert was sentenced to life in prison for murdering Sophie while she was cradling her partner Robert Maltby’s head in her lap throughout the assault.
Sylvia expressed her displeasure only a few months ago when it was discovered that he would be released shortly.
