If you keep up with the NBA then I’m sure you’re aware of Toronto’s snaking of their franchise player DeMar DeRozan. DeRozan served Toronto for 9 years and his loyalty was repaired with a low-blow trade to the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday (July 18) for two-time Defensive Player of the year Kawhi Leonard, who is also hard to pass on.
Drake, a fan and Ambassador of the Toronto Raptors weighed in on the trade with a lengthy Instagram post.
“To my brother @demar_derozan I want to say 10 million thank you’s on behalf of YOUR city. You are a fixture in Toronto forever and you gave everything you had,” Drake wrote. “Through your leadership we had the most exciting years in franchise history.”
“I am grateful to have witnessed your combination of skill, persistence, and loyalty from the same seats every night. Thank you for being an incredible captain and an even better friend.”
DeRozan is reportedly pissed about the trade and feels he was lied to by the Raptors about being a huge part of their future. On Wednesday DeRozan posted this on his Instagram story. “Be told one thing & the outcome another. Can’t trust em. Ain’t no loyalty in this game. Sell you out quick for a little bit of nothing… Soon you’ll understand… Don’t disturb…”
Drake ended the post with a welcome message to Kawhi saying, “We look forward to a this new chapter and we welcome you to the most intense and supportive city in NBA basketball!!! You have always been a poised clinical warrior and I can’t wait to see how Toronto inspires your fight.”
San Antonio Spurs traded Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green to the Toronto Raptors for DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl and a protected 2019 first-round pick.
