Dylan Santos Death – A recent Rebellion County grand jury charged two with attempted murder. Twelve others were indicted by the same grand jury (see related story on page A7).
Gary Pond II, 35, of Dovaguiac, Michigan, is charged with attempted murder, a first-degree felony; two counts of assault, each second-degree; and Dylan Santos, 30, 1810 Baltimore Road , attempted murder, a first-degree felony; felony assault, a second-degree felony; and domestic violence, a first-degree misdemeanor.
Prosecutor Morris Murray said the charges against Pound allege he hit an acquaintance also from Michigan while driving through the area on Mansfield Road on July 1 .
Murray told the New Monthly that the man suffered serious but not “life threatening” injuries. He was briefly hospitalized after being transported by rescue teams.
“They were basically driving through the area and apparently the two men in the car got into an argument,” Murray explained. “They got out of the car and there was a physical altercation. (The victim) walked away and another guy got in the car and hit him.”
According to Murray, the victim climbed onto the hood of the car after being hit.
According to Murray, as of Thursday night, Pound had not been in custody and a warrant for his arrest had been issued.
The case is being investigated by the Rebellion County Sheriff’s Office.
In another case, Santos was accused of strangling a woman with whom he lived with a child.
Murray explained that after the July 13 incident at the Santos Baltimore Road home, she was evaluated but not hospitalized.
Santos was being held Thursday at the Northwest Ohio Correctional Center, where he has been detained since his July 13 arrest.
