A tragic accident occurred in the most recent episode of Deadliest Catch. A staff worker on the stated performance, Francis Katungin, was hurt in an incident on Tuesday night. All of this occurred as a result of Francis being crushed against a railing by a rogue wave. The show’s official social media account used Twitter to share a video of the shocking incident and inform viewers. It has subsequently become a hot issue on social media.
Captain Rip Carlton was in a nightmare situation after losing favorite fisherman Todd Kochutin in a similar tragedy onboard the Patricia Lee last year. Kochutin died in February 2021, when he was only 30 years old. He died as a result of injuries incurred during crab fishing, according to his obituary. After the show aired, more information was available, including the fact that Kochutin was struck by an 800-pound crab pot. When the crew was launching crab traps in heavy waves on Tuesday’s episode of the long-running Discovery series, a huge wave knocked a crab pot from the launcher.
Francis Katungin: What Happened to Him?
Deckhand Katungin was caught against a railing by a huge chunk of welded steel. The situation was so dire that Deadliest Catch producer Todd Stanley went on camera to administer first assistance. Katungin’s injuries are unknown at this time, however it was clear from the episode that he had suffered significant pelvic trauma, which could have resulted in a broken hip and shattered pelvis.
In Tuesday’s episode, Captain Carlton drove his boat for 16 hours to get within range of a US Coast Guard aircraft that may help extract the injured crewman. “Last year, Todd was killed on that boat,” Cornelia Marie co-captain Casey McManus stated in the episode. “Now he’s crushing yet another guy,” says the narrator. “It’s just… I mean…”, she says. Captain Carlton sought to remain upbeat despite the dire situation.
“You have to do the best job you can,” he remarked. “My primary objective is to get this vessel to a safe position where Francis can be safely removed by the Coast Guard, which will not be easy.” As he awaited rescue, Katungin added, “I just want to finish this trip.” Put an end to this f****** season… This is where I would rather be. This is just what I like to do.” Follow us for more breaking news and current issues from around the world. Keep an eye on us.
