Queen Creek, Arizona, Mayor Gail Barney passes away at age 74. Mayor Barney devoted his life to public service, his loved ones, and the development of the Queen Creek neighborhood.
On Thursday morning, a message posted on the Town of Queen Creek website said Mayor Barney had passed away.
“The Town mourns the loss of Queen Creek Mayor Gail Barney with great sorrow. He battled a lung ailment for several months before passing away last night at the age of 74, according to the statement.
When he moved to Queen Creek from Safford, Arizona, at the age of six months in 1948, Mayor Barney lived there for almost his entire life.
From 1998 to 2002, when he was chosen to fill a vacancy on the Town Council, he served on the Queen Creek Planning & Zoning Commission. Prior to his election as mayor in 2010, he served as a council member.
