Holstar & Dominant 1 unearth African Diamond with cross-continent collaboration.
Zambia’s Holstar and Malawi’s Dominant 1 solidify their relationship with the release of their new collaborative EP “African Diamond.”
The two emcees shine bright and put on for the motherland with Sonic verses that cuts across cultures. Produced entirely by D1, AD references several African pioneers and monuments including Kwame Nkrumah, Steve Biko, Dangote, Nelson Mandela and Fela Kuti, who is among the nominees for this year’s Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
The two have worked on numerous tracks in the past including Real African poetry and You Will Be Loved so it “was only fair” they combined talents for a new EP. “We have the same fans so it was only fair that we did this EP,” says Dominant 1.
The duo educate the youth about money moves and the benefits of staying true to yourself on Dolla Circulate and dismantle stereotypes on Africa Is featuring Malawian poet Q Malewezi. The EP closes out with Mulanje’s Kabompo, featuring Ariel. “The story behind Mulanje’s Kabompo is Mulanje is the tallest mountain peak in Malawi and then Kabompo is the deepest river in Zambia,” says Holstar. “So we wanted to play with that kind of saying – a love which is so deep like the deepest river in Zambia and gets you higher than the highest mountain in Malawi.”
