The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office in Syracuse held a press conference on Thursday announcing that Karen Eames was arrested and charged with grand larceny and criminal possession in the second degree.
The arrest came after an investigation started after an attempted money transfer to a bank account shared by Karen and her husband, Isaac Eames.
Isaac was working as a Civil Deputy at the time, and he was in charge of a civil account that included garnished earnings, civil settlements, and fees paid by private citizens.
There was money from both taxpayers and non-taxpayers. Isaac Eames “was internally perpetrating thefts over a period of time,” according to Onondaga County Sheriff Gene Conway.
He went on to say that monitoring the civil account was a “desirable position” and that the inquiry was still ongoing, Conway added.
