Jane Rath Death – We are extremely devastated to announce the death of a fervent LDS activist and militant, Mrs Jane Rath, who passed away last night at Victoria Hospital, just eight days before her 71st birthday.
Jane Rath was a former secretary-general of the Seychelles Party for Social Justice and Democracy (SPSD) before taking over as president after Mrs Alexia Amesbury had to step down, became an active member of the LDS family in 2016, when opposition parties joined together to contest the elections.
Jane Rath remained a loyal supporter until her last day, helping in whatever way she could to move the party forward. After returning to Seychelles in 2006 after 20 years in England, she spent most of her time on Praslin, more precisely Grand Anse, where she worked for many years as a counselor at the district’s secondary school. Miss Jane, as she was affectionately called, also served as the Chairperson of the Grand Anse Praslin LDS Women’s Association.
Jane Rath, who returned from treatment in India in June after a triple bypass, leaves behind her four children: Jimmy, Stephanie and twin sisters Nicola and Mavis, who all live in England, as well as her brothers Kevin and Jerry, and sisters Kathleen and Doris.
“Jane was so happy to have lived to see the political change that she long craved for in her beloved Seychelles”, remarked her best friend Gretel Laljee-Lablache.
The date of her funeral will be announced later as the family is waiting for the arrival of her four children from England.
