Jay-Z, Fela Kuti, Mary J. Blige Among Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2021 Nominees.
The ballot for 2021’s Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame has been unveiled and it includes nominees from Jay-Z, Fela Kuti, and Mary J. Blige amongst others.
The list unveiled on Wednesday (Feb. 10) is being heralded as the most eclectic list in the organization’s more than 30 year history. The list, which comprises of 16 nominees includes 7 women – that’s four more than last year, which featured only three women.
Alongside Jay-Z, who is up for induction in his first year of eligibility (artists become eligible 25 years after the release of their first album, EP or single) this year’s ballot also includes Mary J. Blige, Chaka Khan, Devo, Rage Against The Machine, New York Dolls, Foo Fighters, Kate Bush, Carole King, Dionne Warwick, Iron Maiden, Todd Rundgren, Tina Turner, LL Cool J and The Go-Go’s.
If chosen for the 2021 class, King and Turner will become the second and third female artists inducted twice, following Nicks’ 2019 election. Carole King was previously inducted in 1990 with songwriting partner Gerry Goffin, while Tina Turner was inducted in 1991 as one half of musical duo Ike & Tina Turner.
If Foo Fighters, who also just reached their first year of eligibility, are inducted this year, Dave Grohl will also become a twice-inducted performer, after Nirvana was welcomed into the Rock Hall in 2014.
Fans can cast their votes everyday at the Rock Hall website up to April 30. The ceremony will be held this fall in Cleveland, Ohio.
