Kanye West dedicated his latest Sunday Service to the victims of Travis Scott’s Astroworld festival, in which eight people died including a 14-year old.
The festival held in Houston’s NRG park Friday night (Nov. 5) left hundreds of concertgoers injured as the crowd of 50,000 surged towards the stage while Scott was performing. The Sicko Mode rapper has been accused of gross negligence by some of the fans at the concert for failing to identify the ‘predictable’ warnings.
The rapper now known as Ye was surprisingly not at the service, but prior to the commencement of the live stream, a message was posted that read, ‘Sunday Service dedication to the loved ones of Astroworld.’
This week’s service had a more somber tone than last week’s service, which was held outdoors and was attended by Marilyn Manson and Justin Bieber.
In a statement shared on his social media account, Scott said he wasn’t aware of how serious the situation was, and also promised to fully corporate with the Houston authorities in their investigations.
“Anytime I could make out, you know, anything that’s going on, I stop the show and help them get the help they need,” Scott said in a video posted to his Twitter on Saturday night. “I could just never imagine the severity of the situation. We’ve been working closely with everyone to try to get to the bottom of this.”
Meanwhile Roddy Ricch, who was one of the performers listed on Friday’s lineup has pledged his Astroworld earnings to the victims at the event. ‘The Box’ rapper requested that families of those involved in the tragedy contact Shawn Holiday, a member of his management team.
“Please have the families of those who we lost yesterday reach out,” the rapper wrote in his Instagram stories on Saturday. “I’ll [be] donating my net compensation to the families of this incident. #Pray4Houston.”
