Rumors of Kendrick Lamar releasing a new album this Friday started circulating after fans noticed that he changed his Spotify profile picture then changed it back. On the same day, snippets of unreleased tracks (including one called “Therapy Session”) surfaced online.
Friday, October 22 marks the 9th anniversary of good Kid, m.A.A.d city and these are all good signs. Fans also noted that this is the first time Dot will be switching his profile picture for the first time since 2017, which was also the year he released his last album DAMN.
Frank Ocean and A$AP Rocky also recently changed their Spotify profile pictures but it didn’t lead to new music from either of them so this could just mean nothing. Regardless fans are excited and have their fingers crossed for a new Kendrick album or music.
The elusive rapper announced back in August that his next album will be his final release under Top Dawg Entertainment.
“As I produce my final TDE album, I feel joy to have been a part of such a cultural imprint after 17 years. The Struggles. The Success. And most importantly, the Brotherhood. May the Most High continue to use Top Dawg as a vessel for candid creators. As I continue to pursue my life’s calling.
There’s beauty in completion. And always faith in the unknown.
Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts. I’ve prayed for you all.
See you soon enough.”
Despite shying away from the limelight, Dot has kept himself slightly more busy this year with two feature appearances on Baby Keem’s debut album, The Melodic Blue. He’s also scheduled to headline Day N Vegas Fest in 3 weeks.
Kendrick will also be performing at next year’s Super Bowl LVI Pepsi halftime show alongside Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem and Mary J. Blige.
We will keep you updated but keep expectations very low for now.
