UPDATE: (march 26)
Florida newspaper, The Ledger reports Kevin Gates will be transferred to Illinois to face weapon charges. During his first court hearing on Friday (March 25) in the Polk County Courthouse, Gates waived his extradition to Cook County — meaning, he has accepted to be transferred to Illinois where the weapon charges stems from without a court hearing to determine if the transfer is justified.
Gates will remain in Polk County jail until he gets picked up by Illinois authorities within 30 days.
Original Story:
Kevin gates today was about to be a free man but the hip hop police are always lurking. TMZ reports that Gates had just completed his sentence for kicking a woman in the chest during a show in Florida back in 2015.
Kevin was sentenced to 6 months in Polk County jail but was scheduled to get out a month early. Today, (March 24) would’ve been the day the Baton Rouge rapper returns home to his family, but as he was being processed for release, the authorities found an outstanding weapons-related charges hanging, so they threw him back in the slammer.
He is to be extradited to Cook county jail in Illinois where the weapons charges originates from.
The setback comes at a time Gates was beginning to pick up steam. His 2016 debut album Islah went platinum and he did it with no features. An achievement bigger than J. Cole’s “4 Your Eyes Only” when you conside the popularity of both artists.
