Lauryn Hill surprises fans with a new single, well, sort of.
The ex-Fugees singer/rapper lends her talents to The Queen & Slim soundtrack. Guarding The Gates is a standout track off that soundtrack.
Ms. Hill has been performing the song for years during her live shows, but this is the first time it would be made available on streaming services. Guarding The Gates is Lauryn’s first solo single since 2014’s “Black Rage.” In August she joined Pusha T on the song Coming Home.
“Queen & Slim: The Soundtrack” also features contributions from Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Baby, Vince Staples, The-Dream, Burna Boy and more. The film, which was written and co-produced by Lena Waithe and scored by Devonté Hynes, stars Oscar nominee Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith as a young couple who flees the law after Kaluuya’s character kills a police officer.
Queen & Slim hits theaters November 27.
