Master P wants the hip hop industry to create a union similar to what the NBA has going with the Players Association.
P spoke with TMZ in Los Angeles on Thursday about the DMX incident and says X OD’n could’ve been avoided if the hip hop community looked after each other.
Master P says he hates how the hip hop community waits for something bad to happen to one of its peers before choosing to offer love and support. P thinks the industry needs a support group to help artists going through tough times, most especially the ones battling with drugs addiction.
“DMX is an icon and I just hate that we have to wait for something to happen to one of us before everybody really starts saying how much they care and they love you,” he says. “The truth hurts, drugs done killed a lot of our great ones …. sent a lot of them to prison, and I’m praying for DMX and his family, and I hope that people start celebrating these icons while they’re alive.”
He continued “I feel like hip hop needs some type of Union. The NBA has it …. we need that. I think it starts with education.”
DMX suffered a drug overdose on Friday, April 2, leaving his brain deprived of oxygen for nearly 30 minutes. The rapper was rushed to a hospital in White Plains, New York and remains in critical condition.
Several hip hop stars including Rick Ross, Missy Elliot and Ja Rule sent prayers for the 50-year old hip hop icon and wished him a speedy recovery.
