Mike Lang Death – We are extremely devastated to announce the death of Mike Lang, who passed away today, August 05, 2022. This was made known through what was posted across the social media earlier, friends and families expressed their grief by peening down their tributes to honor the dead.
Some of the Tributes
Mike Lang, session keyboard great and even better person, passed away this morning of cancer which he had been battling for awhile. He was one of the first people to befriend me when I moved to LA and certainly the first to take me to lunch. I am on an email chain of composers and was not surprised to hear many others say something almost identical.
I will never forget sitting at a table with Mike and Quincy Jones at Vibrato, observing how both of them made everyone who approached feel that they were their best friend in the world. A musical voice without comparison, he was someone whose list of who he played with puts most of the rest of us to shame, yet he never made you feel he was more important than you were.
He will truly be missed. Here’s a picture of him from a few years back playing with some guy with a moustache named Frank, plus a slightly more recent one. – Michael A. Levine wrote
Good-bye, my dear old friend. We have lost the great Mike Lang. An absolute legend of our music and film music world. I created the entire solo piano encore of the Basil Poledouris concert as a special feature for Mike to play, but, by the concert date, he was just too unwell to play what we tragically knew, was likely to be his final performance. This Henry Mancini album that I recorded with Mike back in 1994 is one of my all-time favorite recordings. A master musician. A dear man. So supportive of his fellow musicians. Such an enormous loss. – Robert Townson wrote
Goodbye my friend. We will truly miss you. Rest in peace. You are a legend and always will be. Thank you for the music. Mike Lang – Sharon Farber wrote
Our sweet, mega-talented, dear friend Mike Lang passed away this morning. Fred I and so are beside ourselves with sadness. Mike was one of a kind and loved by so many who knew and worked with him. His music will live on through the hundreds of film scores that feature his unmistakable piano playing.
Deborah Pearl, his love and companion these past years gave him so much to live for, but cancer took him away from her.
This is a time of incredible sadness and reflection on the life of a man who truly made his mark on the world. We will miss you, Mike.
