Missy Elliot makes triumphant return with “Iconology” EP.
The Award-winning rapper/songwriter revealed yesterday that she’ll be releasing a collection of new songs on Friday (Aug. 24).
“At midnight tonight I’m dropping a collection of new songs! Let’s #ThrowItBack to a time when music just felt good and made us want to dance! Sincerely, Dr. Melissa “Missy” Elliott #ICONOLOGY,” she tweeted.
Staying true to her promise, the veteran artist delivers her first project in over ten years.
Missy hasn’t released an album since 2005’s The Cookbook. The project debuted at number two on the U.S. charts and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), selling 645,000 copies in the United States.
Iconology features production from Missy Elliot and frequent collaborator, Timbaland.
In addition to releasing her new EP. Missy debuts a video for “Throw It Back,” the first track off the newly released collection. The video contains a cameo appearance from Teyana Taylor.
On Monday (Aug. 27) the Grammy-winning artist will be honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the MTV VMAs.
