Rapper Coolio Death – Rapper Coolio, who had singles like “Gangsta’s Paradise” and “Fantastic Voyage” and was one of the biggest names in hip-hop in the 1990s, passed away on Wednesday at 59.
According to his longtime manager Jarez Posey, Coolio—whose full name was Artis Leon Ivey Jr.—died at a friend’s house in Los Angeles. The reason wasn’t immediately obvious.
For “Gangsta’s Paradise,” the 1995 hit from the soundtrack of the Michelle Pfeiffer movie “Dangerous Minds,” which sampled Stevie Wonder’s 1976 song “Pastime Paradise,” Coolio received a Grammy for best solo rap performance.
Throughout a career that began in the late 1980s, he received five additional Grammy nominations.
