PEOPLE announced on Thursday that the Goodfellas star had died at the age of 67. He is survived by Nitoro, their four children, and Carson, his 23-year-old daughter with ex-wife Michelle Grace. In December 2020, Lyotta confirmed her engagement to Nitolo on Instagram, writing: “Christmas desires come true. “I proposed to my love, and she gladly accepted!!!”
In an interview with People magazine last year, Liotta also admitted that he doesn’t take family for granted. The star grew up in New Jersey, where his father, Alfred, was an auto parts dealer, and his mother, Mary, adopted him from an orphanage.
“At first I didn’t understand how parents would abandon their children,” he said. “So I had this energy and it was like this, and it screwed up. Then, when I finally met my biological mother in my 40s, I wasn’t so angry anymore. It was just another journey.”
Lyotta added: “After many years, you grow up and you just see the pattern of things. I did develop more patience. Now I am thankful for my health. And because of the birth. For the parents who adopted me. I mean, it could be a lot of different ways.”
