Martha Turner was born in 1940, She earned a bachelor’s degree in music and education from the University of North Texas in 1962, allowing her to pursue her aspirations. She started out as a teacher and then worked in a business for a bit. She began remodeling, building, and selling properties after retiring from her teaching profession. She hasn’t looked back since then.
Martha married her first husband after meeting him on a blind date while she was still in high school. She returned to Austin after the wedding, where he was studying law at UT/Austin. In 1966, she and her husband returned to Houston after her husband’s graduation. She then decided to pursue her passion and started working as a real estate agent.
Martha Turner started Sotheby’s International Realty was started in 1981. The New York-based firm became one of Houston’s most well-known brokerage firms. Her goal has always been to encourage young women to follow in her footsteps. In 2015, she increased her company from two agents to over 240 agents. Turner made more than $2 million in house sales in 2014.
