The Ruler.
The last time Slick Rick dropped anything remotely close to a single was his freestyle over French Montana’s No Stylist. The veteran MC marks his official return with a two-in-one video for “Can’t Dance To A Track That Ain’t Got No Soul” and “Midas Touch.”
The former was included in the special 30th anniversary package for his 1988 classic The Great Adventures Of Slick Rick earlier this year, but this is the first time it’s being made available on streaming services.
In the first half of the Black Barcelona-directed video … Slick, in his traditional pimp suit and eye patch is seated in a boardroom with music executives. The rapper educates the young generation (or in this case a kid) about the shady side of the industry, which as you would guess didn’t go down well with the execs. The Ruler leaves the meeting and heads to an underground club. From there the beat switches to a more hip rhythm.
MC Lyte, Black-ish actor Miles Brown and French Montana all make cameo appearances.
“Midas Touch” is the first original song to be released from the British-American MC since 1999.
