Spirit Butler Death – We are extremely devastated to announce the death of Spirit Butler, 14, Spirit Butler, the local 14 year old girl that hung herself to avoid starting school with bullies, has passed away.
A post from her mother’s social media page broke the news to the world reads:
“Baby with my lord now, 9:06 pm Aug 25th 2022 will never be the same”
Spirit Butler who recently graduated from the 8th grade at Westview Middle School in St.Louis was heading to the 9th grade this year in the Riverview School District.
We spoke with Spirit’s mother Mary Butler earlier this month and she informed VOP that Spirit had issues of being bullied and asked her if she could attend a different school this year. Her mother informed her yes she could, she would just need a little time to make it happen. Unfortunately, Spirit was so traumatized from the bullying that had taken place, she hung herself. Spirit was immediately taken to a hospital where she has been on life support for over two weeks.
Spirit’s mother, Mary, bravely stood in front of our cameras and pleaded with the community to take on issues such as bullying, more seriously. She wanted everyone from parents, to school administrators, to children to understand that bullying hurts and should always be handled accordingly and that bullies should be punished.
At no point should our children ever not want to attend school due to fear of being harassed and bullied.
We send our heartfelt condolences to all those that will be affected by this situation.
