Today, July 13, 2022. Tanita Myers passed away surrounded by her family.
Tanita Myers is a seasoned network and local news manager, producer, broadcaster and anchor. She joined iHeartMedia’s Black Information Network following 15-years at Reach Media where she was Senior Director of Radio Operations.
Tanita previously served as Director of Operations for The Tom Joyner Morning Show and Executive Producer of The Rickey Smiley Morning Show. She has been heard on various radio stations in Phoenix, Dallas and Flint, Michigan.
We learnt about her death through a lenghty post written by Roland S. Martin, host and managing editor of the #RolandMartinUnfiltered Daily Digital Show. He said;
“This morning has already started off difficult. The other day, I posted about losing a colleague. That person was Tanita Myers, the director of news operations for @iHeartRadio’s Black Information Network. Tanita and I worked together at Tom Joyner’s REACH Media and she was our liaison Between REACH and @tvonetv’s #NewsOneNow.
She was the person who I sent my daily Black Information Network commentaries to. When the network launched, it was Tanita who was my biggest cheerleader and who insisted that I be hired. Her death is so shocking because I last saw her at @essencefest on Friday at the @McDonalds brunch with @KekePalmer. Tanita was being Tanita: loud and funny. We hugged each other and laughed. I was working so it was quick. The next day was her birthday and she was supposed to do dinner in New Orleans. But she never made it.Tanita was found unresponsive in her room and rushed to Tulane hospital. She never regained consciousness. Yesterday, at 2:26 pm Arizona time, her family removed her life support. That was the exact time of her birth. Today at 4:44 am CST, Tanita passed away.Fam, Tanita was such a bundle of joy. Her energy was amazing; her laugh was awesome; and she loved her job. She adored me and vice versa. She was SO supportive of me. When my Sprinter crashed last week, I was in Birmingham when I got a text from @JawnMurray about her. I was FLOORED. I literally had just hugged her. She has been on my mind daily since that time. We don’t know the cause of her death, but she’s now an ancestor. We will miss Tanita dearly. I will miss Tanita dearly.The other day, @blackinfonet prez Tony Coles broke me with a text He wrote:“BTW, I hope you know how much and how often she talked about you. The impact you had on her was immense.” I was in the car listening to Patty Griffin’s “Up To The Mountain (MLK Song)” and the tears just flowed.
For the last week, I kept sending my daily Commentaries to her email like I’ve done for the last two years. She was so young; so vibrant; and such a bright future. Prayers to her 20-year-old son, Brandon; her mom; siblings; and @blackinfonet and Urban One/REACH Media families. You WILL be missed, Tanita.”
