Evert’s sister, Jeanne Evert Dubin, died of ovarian cancer in February 2020 at the age of 62. Evert underwent her genetic test after her sister’s DNA analysis suggested a vulnerability to certain cancers. Her BRCA1 gene mutation was discovered during the test.
One out of every five women who acquire ovarian cancer has a genetic gene that raises their risk, according to Dr. Robert Wenham, chair of Moffitt Cancer Center’s Gynecologic Oncology Program.
