Counterclock has created a series of programs to commemorate John Welles, a 17-year-old Arcadia teen who died mysteriously 19 years ago. The death of 17-year-old John Welles in Arcadia, Florida in 2003 is the subject of Season 4 of CounterClock.
The broadcaster and investigative journalist Delia D’Ambra is re-examining the facts and evidence in the case, unearthing previously unknown clues. The mysteries hidden in the victim’s rural village prove to be the team’s most challenging and dangerous case yet, requiring Delia to face head-to-head with some of Florida’s most powerful politicians.
John Welles’ death case has been listed in the forgotten cases after 19 years of its occurrence. When we dig deep into the 2003 murder, we can see the development fading with time. In 2014, the Forgotten cases were posted on Facebook asking for people to inform if they knew anything regarding it. If the person who withheld the information has no connection to the murder, he would not be charged as per the Criminal Investigation.
Welles’ death was a mysterious one and the dead body was discovered by the police force inside a ditch. John returned home from the local Wal-Mart in Arcadia, FL at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 8, 2003, according to the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies went to a complaint around 4:30 p.m., and John’s corpse was discovered floating in Joshua Creek. Investigators first believed John perished by accident when he fell into the water, but an autopsy indicated otherwise. After shooting John in the eye, the killer threw his body into the sea, where he drowned.
