A manhunt is underway after a high-speed chase that began in Harrison County and continued along Interstate 79 into Marion County’s Goldenmont region, which a police officer described as a “mobile shootout.”
According to Harrison County Sheriff Robert Massini, the suspect opened fire on the police cruiser, resulting in a shootout between cops and the suspect. At this moment, Matheny says he isn’t aware of any law enforcement breaches.
One suspect has been apprehended, but two others are still on the loose, prompting police to advise the public to avoid the Kimmont area and be on the lookout for unusual activities.
Reports said the suspect was shot while in custody and a helicopter was used to transport him to hospital. Witnesses also reported that both lanes of northbound Interstate 79 were closed and traffic was returning to the South Fairmont exit.
