Travis Scott announced plans to cover the funeral costs for the eight victims who died tragically at his Astroworld music festival this past weekend (Nov. 5).
In a press statement the 30-year old rapper also announced he’s partnered with BetterHelp (a network of mental health professionals) to offer therapeutic services for free to Afroworld attendees who may be going through trauma due to the occurrences at the festival. Variety also reports the Sicko Mode rapper will provide full refunds for all attendees who bought tickets to Astroworld. Scott, who is starting to feel the pressure also canceled his headlining set at Day N Vegas Festival, which was scheduled to hold this Saturday (Nov. 13) in Las Vegas.
The rapper continues to receive backlash and has been hit with numerous lawsuits for ignoring the tragic events happening at his own festival in Houston’s NRG park. Concertgoers say Scott kept on performing for 37 minutes despite the incessant cries for help.
The Houston native has a history of encouraging violence culture at his concerts and there’s already a campaign to have him
canceled. At least eight people were killed at his recent concert with countless others injured. Prior to the show’s kick off, Houston police chief Troy Finner said he spoke to Scott and his security about the safety of the 50,000 people in attendance.
“I have never seen a time with more challenges facing citizens of all ages, to include a global pandemic and social tension throughout the nation.’
He continued: ‘I asked Travis Scott and his team to work with HPD for all events over the weekend and to be mindful of his team’s social media messaging on any unscheduled events. The meeting was brief and respectful, and a chance for me to share my public safety as Chief of Police.”
In a statement shared on his social feed, Scott insists he wasn’t aware of how serious things were and adds he’s working with the authorities to figure out what happened.
