JAY-Z & Roc Nation’s new partnership with the National Football League continues to generate mixed reviews from the public.
The general consensus is Hov betrayed Colin Kaepernick, and to an extent, the black community by agreeing to work with the NFL – A league that blackballed CK for taking a stand, or in this case, a knee in protest against racial injustice and police brutality in America.
Despite the ongoing backlash, Jay still has a few believers in his corner. TMZ briefly caught up with Roc Nation signee, Vic Mensa outside The Nice Guy In West Hollywood to get his thoughts on the controversy surrounding his label boss’ new deal.
“I would be surprised if Kaepernick doesn’t get a job with Hov being in the NFL,” Vic says. “We know the NFL is a slave game, so to have a black man in there … especially a black man with a socially conscious responsibility, cause i know that’s how Hov feels, man … I believe that Kap gonna get that job and I believe that Hov’s intentions are in the right place.”
Mensa continues by saying he has tremendous respect for Kaepernick and the work he’s done but says the black community should get behind Jay because “shit’s gotta change” in the NFL and Jay is the guy to make it happen.
Khaled, Cardi B and Freddie Gibbs are a few popular names who have also pulled their weight behind JAY-Z. Where do you stand?
Well played, NFL. You got exactly what you wanted. https://t.co/SbUh4AuYKE— Jemele Hill (@jemelehill) August 19, 2019
