In 2011, Azizulhasni Awang went through a severe injury following a crash where a 20cm wooden splinter went through his leg. He underwent surgery to remove it but got ruled out of the World Championships.
Regardless of getting injured, he managed to finish the race in third. He then collapsed and was taken on the stretcher to pull out the pierced wood.
At the time, John Beasley, a Malaysian head coach, mentioned, “The only way they can do it is by surgically going in from both ends and spreading it apart and pulling it out.”
Azizulhasni Awang was born on 5 January 1988 in Kuala Dungun, Terengganu, Malaysia. In 2022, he reached 34 years of age.

He is the eighth child of his born parents, who have nine kids. The cyclist now has his own family with his wife, Athiah Ilyana Abd Samat.
