On Tuesday (April 26), After four people were killed in a blast outside the Confuscious Institute of Karachi University, it was revealed that the suicide bombing was carried out by Shari Baloch, a 30-year-old woman.
A video of the event has since gone viral on social media, showing a hijab-clad Shari patiently waiting for the van transporting Chinese nationals before pulling the trigger on the bomb.
While similar attacks are prevalent in Pakistan, the Karachi varsity blast caught the public’s attention for two reasons: the perpetrator was a woman, and the victims were Chinese nationals.
Habitan Bashir Baloch, the alleged husband of suicide bomber Shari Baloch, is a dentist by profession. In a tweet, he expressed pride in his departed wife’s activities.
Shari Baloch, commonly known as Baramsh, came from a well-educated and well-connected family. She was a member of the Baloch Liberation Army’s Majeed Brigade, as per journalist Gaurav Sawant.
The BLA’s special wing was created to target Chinese nationals in Pakistan.
The BLA rebel earned a master’s degree in zoology from the University of Balochistan and a Mphil degree from the Allama Iqbal Open University. Moreover, Shari worked as a primary school teacher in Niazar Abad, Turbat, Balochistan.

Shari Baloch is said to have spent around two years with the Balochistan Liberation Army’s Majeed Brigade. She was well aware of Pakistan’s forcible conquest of Balochistan and the genocide conducted against the Baloch people.

Bashir Baloch’s age is considered to be between 30 and 40 years old based on his appearance.
His wife, on the other hand, died when she was 30 years old.
Bashir and Shari Baloch have two little children, Mahoroch and Meer Hassan, who had lost their mother at an early age.

Interestingly, the woman was a member of the Baloch Students Organisation (BSO-Azad) during her student years, as reported in the story in The Express Tribune. Her fifth cousin was killed in a Pakistani military action in 2018.
