Vernon Douglas allegedly who committed the latest attack against members of the Sikh community in Richmond Hill has been arrested and also been charged to Court.
On Sunday, April 3, Douglas allegedly approached a 70-year-old man Nirmal Singh near the corner of Lefferts Boulevard and 95th Avenue and punched him in the face. The attacker fled the scene on foot and the incident was taken over by the NYPD Hate Crime Task Force.

Vernon Douglas, 19, of Brownsville, was arrested in Brooklyn today and charged with multiple counts of robbery, assault, aggravated harassment and hate crimes.
Vernon Douglas was born in Brooklyn, although his nationality and religion are unknown. He was caught on Watkins Street in the Brownsville neighbourhood.

Brooklyn Man Vernon Douglas Arrested For Assault On Nirmal Singh
Vernon Douglas has been charged with robbery and aggravated harassment.
Vernon, 19, was detained at his Watkins Street home in Brownsville, Brooklyn, and charged with the unprovoked assault of Nirmal Singh, 70, who was sucker-punched from behind, according to the New York Police Department.
The NYPD arrested him on Thursday and charged him with a hate crime for a savage assault on an elderly Sikh man in South Richmond Hill on April 3.
In Richmond Hill, an assault occurred on 95th Avenue and Lefferts Boulevard. When Singh was assaulted, he dressed in traditional Sikh clothing and headed to the Sikh Cultural Society Temple.
He was discovered with blood on his face and jacket as he walked around the Gurdwara. Singh was carried to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in a private vehicle with a fractured nose, a swollen black eye, and a sprained wrist.
According to the NYPD, Douglas was charged with hate crime attacks, aggravated harassment, and robbery.
