wifisfuneral is a restless creative, shifting his sound and vocal approach to fit the themes of the music he makes. Last year, wifi switched-up his approach to add more melody, and he continues that artistic direction with Smoking Mirrors, his upcoming EP.
The follow-up to his acclaimed 2020 project PAIN?, the “Smoking Mirrors” EP is a wavy and tuneful trip into wifi’s mind, confronting his demons head on. The EP juxtaposes wifi’s dark night of the soul ruminations with in-depth examinations of wifi’s romantic entanglements, delivered in twisty, melodic flows.
Featuring production from JetsonMade and frequent collaborator Nvbeel, who produced wifi’s fan-favorite “Peace Sign” ft. YBN Nahmir, among others, Smoking Mirrors arrives on May 28th via Alamo Records.
Along with the announcement of the EP, wifi shares “Where I’m Going,” a forward-looking single complete with a surreal music video. A haunting effort populated by distorted vocal samples and subsonic 808s, “Where I’m Going” is a tantalizing blend of wifi’s new and old styles, mixing back-of-pocket auto-tuned warbles with fast-talking triplets as the 24-year-old artist brags about getting money since his SoundCloud days.
A tale told in reverse video finds wifi in the thrall of a beautiful woman, who takes the rapper on a journey in a bright-yellow foreign car before she vanishes into the wind.
