In Wolverhampton, history was made today when a former NHS nurse was chosen as the city’s first black mayor.
After 23 years in municipal politics, Councillor Sandra Samuels (Lab, Ettingshall) expressed her gratitude for the historic appointment, calling it “my life’s greatest honor.”
Cllr Samuels has made local history as the first person of African Caribbean descent to be elected to the prestigious position since it was founded in 1848.
