Ben Simmons is done with the toxicity of Philly and won’t be reporting for training camp next week reports ESPN.
The three time All-Star has reportedly told the Philly management that he has no plans to wear an NBA uniform again until he gets traded.
The 25-year old has four years and $147 million left on his max contract, including $33 million for 2021-22 and risks having his salary withheld if he refuses to report for training.
Simmons’ decision to quit the team stems from the deserved backlash he faced after the Sixers’ second round exit in last season’s playoffs. Simmons ghosted all through the series and did not attempt a shot in the fourth quarter over five playoff games against the Hawks. Twitter wasn’t kind to him then, and aren’t kind to him now.
“There’s never been a softer, more mentally weak athlete in Philadelphia sports history than Ben Simmons. Wasted years, stole money, never improved, shrunk in the playoffs and forced his way out with $147M left on his contract.”
