About a month after Cardi B made history by becoming the first female rapper with two Diamond certifications. The mother of two is now tied for the most Diamond songs ever by a female artist.
The Recording Industry Association of America announced Monday (December 13) that Cardi’s 2018 single “I Like It,” featuring J Balvin and Bad Bunny, has surpassed 10 million units moved in the United States, making it certified diamond. She’s now tied with Katy Perry as the only two female artists with three RIAA certified songs.
In celebration, the New York rapper put out a series of posts on social media to express her excitement and appreciation.
“Wow I’m sooo happy! My album came out in 2018 and it’s still breaking records,” she wrote on Instagram. “I have a solo (Diamond) record, a feature (Diamond) record and now ANOTHER (Diamond) record from a collab with 2 people that I look up to and love so much, @jbalvin & @badbunnypr! I remember like it was yesterday when this song went #1 and now it’s Diamond. I honestly just can’t believe this is happening! I’m so proud to have two songs off my debut album go Diamond. I hope I can achieve the same or even better on my next one . Thank you everyone that has supported and loved this record.”
The rapper also confirmed that her long-awaited sophomore album will finally arrive sometime next year. While going live on Instagram, Cardi shared the big news with fans.
“It’s been a lot trying to balance out my new motherfu**in’ life,” said the mother of two while on her Instagram live. “I have a lot of jobs now. I’m in a lot of positions that require a lot of my time, and on top of that, I gotta put out this album next year.”
