Diddy executive produces Burna Boy’s Twice As Tall out August 13.
Burna Boy continues to make moves on a large scale. After missing out on a Grammy last year to fellow African music legend Angelique Kidjo – The African Giant is prepping the release of his new album, which will be executive produced by music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs.
In an interview with The New York Times, Burna spoke about the LP, which is set to be released on Aug. 13.
“I’ve never picked up a pen and paper and written down a song in my life,” he said. “It all just comes, like someone is standing there and telling me what to say.

It’s all according to the spirits. Some of us are put on this earth to do what we do.”
He continued “[I am] continuing the mission I started, which is building a bridge that leads every Black person in the world to come together and to make you understand that without you having a home base, you can’t be as strong as you are.”
Twice As Tall will be executive produced by Bad Boy CEO, Diddy, who has worked with several notable names in music including Nas, The Notorious B.I.G. and Mary J. Blige.
“I’m on record that I like hit records. If they’re not hit records, I don’t like them,” Diddy tells NYT. “A lot of times when an artist wants to be coached or pushed to maybe a greater level, that’s where I’ve come in.”
He continued, “He, as every artist, he wants his music to be heard by the world. He doesn’t care about crossing over.

You know, he’s not trying to get hot. He’s not, like, ‘I want to be a big pop star’ — he’s already a star. He wants his music to be heard, his message, his people.”
Most of the songs on the LP were recorded and written during the pandemic. Burna Boy and Diddy reportedly collaborated over an eight-hour time difference via Zoom calls and file transfers. Diddy makes his presence felt on the LP with voice-over intros on some songs.

The album also includes added musical contributions from Anderson .Paak on “Alarm Clock” and additional production from Timbaland on “Wetin Dey Sup.”
Diddy, who says 80 Percent of the album was completed before he was brought in to provide “fresh ears” describes the project as “a modern but pure, unapologetic African body of work.”
“Twice As Tall” contains 15-tracks and includes guest appearances by Naughty By Nature, Kenyan band Sauti Sol, Senegal’s Youssou N’Dour, and Chris Martin of Cold Play.
