Today (Sept. 7) marks three years since we lost Mac Miller. The Pittsburgh native who topped the charts as an independent teenage artist died in 2018 from an accidental drug overdose. Fentanyl, cocaine and alcohol were all present in his system.
“The music artist known as Mac Miller died today in his Studio City home,” the LA County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner said in a statement at the time. “In the late morning of September 7, Malcolm McCormick was found unresponsive…. authorities were called and Miller was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:51 (18:51 GMT).”
Prior to his death Mac released his fifth album Swimming” where he talked about his battle with substance abuse.
“Malcolm McCormick, known and adored by fans as Mac Miller, has tragically passed away at the age of 26,” his family said in a statement. “He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends and fans. Thank you for your prayers.”
In commemoration of the third anniversary of his death, fans have taken to social media to share their fondest memories of the late “Circles” rapper.
“After Nipsey. Mac Miller is my favorite rapper. Continue to rest in heaven,” one Twitter user wrote.
