The nominees for the 2022 Grammy Awards were revealed on Tuesday (November 23).
In the categories of interest , Kanye West’s Donda is up for album of the year and best rap album alongside Nas’ King’s Disease, J. Cole’s The Off Season, Drake’s Certified Lover Boy and Tyler, The Creator’s Call Me If You Get Lost. Drake, J. Cole, and Nas also picked up nominations in the song and performance categories, as did Baby Keem, Megan Thee Stallion, and the late DMX.
Jay-Z, who hasn’t released an album since 2017’s mildly disappointing 4:44 picked up nominations in the best rap song category for his features on Jail by Kanye West and DMX’s Balt Salts. He’s also nominated in the Best Album category for his contributions on Donda.
His three nominations for next year’s ceremony make him the most nominated artist in Grammy history with 83 nominations, overtaking legendary producer/composer Quincy Jones who he was previously tied with at 80.
His wife, Beyonce has 79 nods, and also made history at last year’s ceremony, becoming the most nominated woman in the history of the Grammys.
Jay-Z’s first ever grammy nominations and win came at the 1999 ceremony where he earned nods for three categories including two from his classic “Vol. 2…Hard Knock Life” album and one for his collaboration with Jermaine Dupri, “Money Ain’t a Thang.” In a previous interview the 52-year old rap mogul revealed he did not attend the ceremony as a show of support for DMX who was snubbed despite racking up two No. 1 albums in a year.
Since then Jay-Z has won 23 Grammy Awards in his career.
The 2022 Grammy Awards will take place on Sunday, January 31st at the Staples Center Crypto.com arena.
