Kendrick Lamar has been announced as one of the headlining acts performing at this year’s Glastonbury Festival. The 34-year old Pulitzer prize winner will make his debut at the five-day event with a closing set on Sunday night, June 26.
Glastonbury organizer Emily Eavis shared the 2022 line-up on social media, writing: “We are very happy to bring you the first shortlist of artists from the main stages for Glastonbury Festival 2022 – and if you can believe it there’s even more to come!”
The other announced headliners are Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney and Billie Eilish. The line-up also includes Brit Award-winner Little Simz, Mercury Prize-winner Arlo Parks, Nigerian star Burna Boy, Charli XCX, Crowded House, and much more.
There will also be debut appearances from Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, Phoebe Bridgers, TLC, Wet Leg, and jazz icon Herbie Hancock. Motown legend Diana Ross will play the coveted “legends slot” on Sunday afternoon.
The names announced are the first shortlist of acts for this year’s festival, which takes place on 22-26 June. The full lineup is expected to be published in May. Tickets are already sold out.
Glastonbury was due to celebrate its 50th birthday in 2020 but was canceled as a result of the pandemic. Proceeds from the event would go towards the Red Cross Ukraine appeal, as well as the festival’s regular charities, WaterAid, Oxfam, and Greenpeace.
Though he hasn’t released an album since 2017’s DAMN, Kendrick Lamar remains in high demand. In February the Compton MC joined Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Mary J. Blige for an epic Superbowl LVI performance and was recently announced as one of the headliners for Rolling Loud Miami 2022.
I know we’ve had a lot of false promises but it seems the long wait for Kendrick Lamar’s last album on TDE is almost over.
