“This is a HUGE MILESTONE!” she tweeted. “No matter how long it took to get here I am here & I AM HUMBLY GRATEFUL To all my SISTERS in HIPHOP yall keep doing yall thang & SHINING.”
The “Get Ur Freak On” rapper also thanked her fans for their support after a fan highlighted some of her achievements in a Twitter thread.
“God knows I am Humbly Grateful for this THREAD below & the reason I always say that because no matter how much TALENT a artist has it’s because of the FANS SUPPORT that HISTORY can be made! Love each of you & @AtlanticRecords @elektrarecords.”
Missy Elliot began her solo career in 1997 after a brief stint with R&B girl group Sista. Her debut album Supa Dupa Fly debuted at number three on the Billboard 200, and was the highest charting debut for a female rapper at the time. Since then she has won four Grammy awards and in 2019 became the first female rapper to be inducted into the songwriters Hall Of Fame. In November of 2021 the 50-year old was awarded a star at the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.
