Nomad Carlos emerges from the shadows and moves stealthy on his latest album “Element Of Surprize.”
Throughout the project, the self-proclaimed ‘Half Yankee, Half Yardie’ deftly maneuvers between references to classic videogames and films (Blood Smoke & Mirrors, At Will, Rare Breed) and reflections on the importance and meaning of relationships (Shanice, Reciprocate) all with an uncut dose of battle-hardened bars tying the record together.
Drawing inspiration from his time in New York and Jamaica, The Council Of The Gods member takes listeners on a journey through the struggles and victories of the Jamaican diaspora. Carlos combines best of both worlds effectively on the album switching between hard NY spit and fiery patois. The album’s title, Element Of Surprize can be seen as the rapper’s mission statement, or as he describes it “a supremely confident look at the inner life of a yardie poet.”
With contributions from Five Steez, Falcon Outlaw, Mordecai, Chosen 1 Beats, amongst others, “Element Of Surprize” arrives about two months after The Council Of The Gods delivered their latest group album, Trilogy.
