David Chou, California Church Shooting Suspect Identified
David Chou is known as a 68-year-old Las Vegas man, who was named Monday as the suspect in the Laguna Woods church shooting that killed one person and injured five others.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office stated that David was arrested on charges of murder and attempted murder in connection with the Sunday shooting at Geneva Presbyterian Church in the 24000 block of El Toro Road.
The case is still been investigated, as to what caused the violence at the church. The attack occurred during a lunch break following the church’s morning session.
While no information on the one person murdered has been released, the OCSD said on Sunday that the five victims sent to the hospital were all Asian, ranging from 66 to 92.
Authorities claimed the shooting ended when the church’s congregants overcame the perpetrator and hogtied him with an extension cord until first responders arrived, in the act of “amazing heroism.”
Chou is held in the Orange County Intake Release Center on a $1 million bond. He is due to be arraigned in Central Jail Court on Tuesday, at which time he will be able to enter a plea, though that date may change.
The shooting on Sunday comes just one day after a man killed ten people at a supermarket in Buffalo, NY, in a hate crime that police are investigating. In February, a man shot and killed five people, including his daughters, at a Sacramento church.
The reason for the shooting remains unknown. The sheriff’s department says a press conference will be conducted around noon Monday to provide more information.
A gunman opened fire at the lunch reception of the Irvine Taiwanese Presbyterian Church, according to officials, which was hosted at Geneva Presbyterian Church.
The shooter was eventually hogtied with electrical cords after a pastor whacked him in the head with a chair.
Since the case is so recent, there isn’t much public information about him. As the case progresses, his true identity may be discovered.
