Like many of us that have at some point tried to make sense of the popularity surrounding NFTs, Tyler, The Creator is also confused by the concept.
During a recent conversation with Converse, The IGOR rapper shared his thoughts about Non-fungible tokens, most importantly the popular Bored Ape NFT, describing it as a “f-cking Monkey in a Supreme hoodie.”
“So what the fk is an NFT?” he questions. “I paint at home, I play instruments. I have a friend who’s making me speakers by hand right now. What the fk is a NFT?”
Though Tyler admits to not being fully informed about the topic, he understands NFTs are art, but says he doesn’t understand why they’re so valuable.
“The idea of NFT which I am not fully informed so im kind of speaking out of this surface-level ignorance… So excuse me. But the idea of a NFT is like art of something. But None of the examples that I’ve seen is like, beautiful art. It’s a f-cking monkey in a Supreme hoodie.”
“I’m fully not into it,” Tyler continued, “because you can’t NFT me looking at you in real life right now… I like tangible things.”
Regardless of Tyler’s humorous ignorance, NFTs are seemingly a big deal and anyone with loose change is investing in them. Some popular hip hop names to endorse and throw their money behind the growing trend includes Wiz Khalifa, Future, Snoop Dogg, and Eminem.
If I had millions of dollars to burn, I would get in on it too.
